Regina Youth Ballet Review

When the 1st dance started it was a solo of a girl with a tutu on and that was what I expected to see during the performances. When Connie, the organizer of the ballet came up and told the crowd different parts of the ballerina and then asked her to turn around and show her bottom, that was very funny. As the performances went on the steps and costumes changed. I would have liked to see more bright and cheerful colours for the costumes though. The lighting during all the dances was perfect. I liked how it made there body and faces all different colours. The costume for the 1700's was very good. It was good how they used gray, curly gudge hair. I also enjoyed, how most of the dances were all different and they all had perfect syncronization. All the dancers new exactly where or what to do next. That would be very difficult for me to do. Out of all the 7 dances at the beginning, pop, trance, trout, scurry, roll, dart, and bounce, I personally enjoyed "Scurry"! It surprized me how the crawled on their hands and feet entering and leaving the stage. All of the performances had different movements and levels to them too. Some parts of the dances were strange to watch and I have to say I didn't really like how they played the old classical music. That's just my opinion though. Having the sheets and stools as props was very interesting too. The last dance was very good. I liked how the dance began with the sheets over themselves and how the sat up and then sat back down. The overall performance from my view was awesome! I would rate it 3 and a 1/2 stars! Awesome show and great work performers!

Artist: Paul Turner Sargent
FROZEN IN SILENCE

“Ahhhhh!” screamed the voice of the innocent woman being stabbed in the chest, by a cruel and greedy man. He slowly wiped the deep red blood off the six inch blade of his knife. The rag dripped with blood. The woman laid there lonely for five weeks, rotting, and being eaten by thousands of hungry ants and centipedes before anyone found her. Anyone, but not anything…
Detective, Leigh Rette was in her office doodling as Matt, the mailman dropped off a package of a book she ordered and slowly put it on her desk. She has been a detective for two and a half years now. Leigh is a tall 24 year old woman with light brown wavy hair and big brown eyes. Her best friend Casey works with her too, but she is an officer who has a gun, badge and all that other fancy police stuff. “See you later Matt,” said Leigh as she closed the door waving bye. “Uhh, why don’t I just ask him!” she mumbled to herself frustrated. She really wanted to be friends.
Leigh looked at the clock and got a cup of straight black coffee in her favourite mug that Casey gave her. She sat at her desk going over some old crumpled files she had on her desk. Each day her desk got messier and messier. The phone rang about four times before she decided to pick it up. It was 7:00am and it felt like it was the end of the day already. Leigh was so tired.
“Umm, Leigh. It’s Mhegan, we have a code black! Leigh, are you there?” Mhegan asked confused. Leigh’s chair was spinning and she didn’t even answer her call. She was gone!
As she raced to the front desk on the first floor and asked, “What’s the situation?”
“Well, we have a four one twelve in black and say goodbye to Diane Dolton, because she’s deader than a door nail,” teased Mhegan sarcastically. “Leigh, this is your seventh case so, I’m only going to send you an assistant, not a partner. If you need any more help just call.”
“Nah, I’m cool, just a little nervous. Give me the address and papers and I’ll be on my way to paradise, or to see a dead person.”
“Ha, ha, ha!” laughed Angie in her normal snotty mood.
Mhegan looked at Leigh smiling and replied, “Hey, Angie! Take a break and get a life!” A few people around them started to smile and giggle. That definitely made everyone’s day, except for Angie’s of course. “Get a move on Angie, we have business to take care of. So go lick a tree or something.” Mhegan laughed sarcastically. “Why would I do that?” wondered Angie staring at Mhegan.
“Cause, its entertainment!” Everyone burst out laughing and pointing at Angie.
“Ugh!” yelled Angie as she stormed away very upset.
Mhegan handed Leigh the documents as she waved good bye. They are good friends but Leigh just doesn’t know what to say to her. They are both very funny, outrageous and wild. Leigh wishes that they would become best of friends. As the intercom came on Leigh was looking at the documents and reading the report but, Matt was stuck in her head. Twenty minutes later, Leigh’s dark purple Wave car was parked at the crime scene where Diane Dolton was murdered. “So, what do you have so far?” asked her assistant all anxious. He must have had sugar in his coffee already.
“Okay, I wrote it all down,” replied Leigh handing him the notes she had taken. “Oh, I have a pen too, if you have information to add that I may have missed, I’m not quite awake today.
“Well, you have a lot of stuff here but I will see. It’s only 7:30 and I’m exhausted too. It read,
- White skinned female - Found dead in small cottage
- 37 years old - Address is 702 Keel Lake
- 5 stab wounds - Many deep cuts and bruises
- Blood type B positive - About 4-5 weeks since death
Thomas, her assistant scanned through it and nodded. He walked away and studied the body. He added nothing. The first thing Leigh did was let the C.S.I take the body for a closer examination. Then she would take a look at the cottage and around the forest area to see if anything was there. She searched all around and found nothing.
Her cell phone began to buzz and beep. “Leigh, its Mhegan. I’m so sorry, it’s Casey, she’s, she’s umm dead,” said Mhegan sorrowfully. There was a short pause of silence.
“WHAT!?” shouted Leigh slamming her fist against the cottage’s wall, as she finally reacted.
“Well, her friend found her in a bathtub floating in blood. He found a suicide note taped to the side of the sink. It was in very fancy writing on pink paper. Blood was smeared all over the mirror. It was so terrible,” she said slowly while crying. Leigh let out an ear piercing scream as she hung up the phone and raced to Casey’s house. Her eyes were filled with tears as Leigh raced to her house and ran through the door to the bathroom and saw her friend. She had blood all over her, but there was something about her eyes, they were, blinking…
“CASEY? Are you alive? Casey? Tell me; are you alive, are you still breathing?” Leigh questioned with great curiosity. She was so scared. All of a sudden, Casey’s head slowly turned and she moaned a terrible inhuman cry. Leigh could see she was in great pain as she twitched. She had a terrible expression on her face. It was frightening!
It made Leigh feel the pain in her heart. She could hear the ambulance sirens approaching the house. Jason, Casey’s friend, was panicking as he ran outside to get the ambulance to hurry. “Le, I, in ouse, h-h, ouse,” mumbled Casey airy and soar. The noises coming out of her mouth were disgusting.
“Just stay with me, ok Casey. They’re almost here, hold on.” Leigh heard a loud crash and screamed at the top of her lungs as she jumped and threw her arms out surprised! She hit the mirror and it shattered all over the floor. There was blood and glass everywhere! The note drifted slowly in the air floating down to the ground.
She then heard the door slam downstairs as Jason screamed to stop someone. Then Leigh realized, that the crash was the killer downstairs sneaking out and Jason was trying to stop him, or her. Casey knows who it is! “Casey, who did this to you? I need to know! Tell me!” she sternly yelled in fear.
“Mmm,” answered Casey close to the end of her short life. About five minutes later the ambulance, fire trucks, and police cars were all lined up outside. The glass pieces of the mirror were making Leigh lose lots of blood. The rest was a huge blur.
Beep, beep, beep. The monitors and medical machines blinked as Leigh slowly opened her eyes. The hospital lights were bright and the air smelled weird. The nurse was walking by with some sheets in her arms, as Leigh sat straight up, looked at her name badge and yelled loudly, “CASEY! Where is she, is she ok?”
“I’m sorry miss, do you mean Casey Strode?” replied the quiet nurse, still holding the sheets.
“YES, C-A-S-E-Y, S-T-R-O-D-E!” screamed Leigh terrified. The nurse looked at her and she put her head down as she slowly walked away. The nurse left the room. Leigh began to cry and talk in a sobbing, moaning voice. Her best friend was no longer by her side. All she knew was that this case was now her case and nothing would stop her from finding the killer.
Half an hour later, when Leigh was let out of the hospital she asked Mhegan for the rest of the day off. Leigh limped to her car and started the engine. She drove home and there was something on her doorstep, something that was bloody red in colour. She walked closer and it was, beautiful. It was a large bouquet of red roses in a green vase with a note taped onto the side. Leigh’s day was terrible and now she had a little comfort from someone. She stepped to the front step of her small brick house and leaned down to open up the note. Slowly smiling and letting tears fall down her face, Leigh then realized, she had fallen deeply in love with Matt. He had sent a lovely gift and she new he always made her day better. Even if it were the worst day she had ever been through or just to brighten up the hour, he was always there. The note was written on lovely pink coloured paper with fancy writing and it read;
Dear Leigh.....
I know we don’t spend much time together
I would really like to get to know you better
Yours truly, Matt
She lifted up the vase, unlocked the door, and placed the roses on the kitchen table. She turned on the television, grabbed a bag of chips, poured a small glass of Pepsi and sat on the couch curled up in a blanket. She watched TV for a very long time until she slowly drifted off into a deep sleep that emptied her mind. She didn’t have to think about anything while she was peacefully sleeping.
Early Wednesday morning, Leigh was lying in her bed and she wasn’t thinking about going to work. Instead, she was slowly blinking and thinking about her friend. Casey’s last words to her were, ‘Mmm’. She thought about it and decided to drive to her office. She was there in 10 minutes and when she got she ran into Mhegan at the front desk. “Mhegan, think of all the names that start with the letter ‘M’ okay,” said Leigh so fast that Mhegan probably didn’t even understand her. She randomly grabbed a pencil and a sticky note from somebody’s desk and handed it to Mhegan. It looked like Leigh was going nuts because she was so jumpy.
Mhegan began to talk to Leigh as she was writing down names, “Leigh, are you okay? Do you have something or are you just upset about Casey? It’s okay, I’m here with you. Here’s the list umm, it’s all I can think of right now, because you are freaking me out.” She did not reply to anything Mhegan was saying. As she glared in great fear at the list, her heart sunk. On the top of the list, there it was....
Matt, it couldn’t be true. No, no, no. Matt was a nice guy. Being a mailman isn’t being a killer. He’s innocent! “Ahh, Leigh we found some roses at Diane Dolton’s cottage and at umm, Casey’s place too. The notes on the flowers were all the same. We all think that the murders may be connected some how.” There was a puddle of water on the floor and glass scattered everywhere. The glass Leigh was holding was now broken. It was the glass Casey had given her two years ago when she had finished her first case. The flowers! She got them too. “It’s Matt; he gave me red roses and wrote a lovely note too,” confessed Leigh as tears slowly began to fall down her face. Her heart was crushed. She raced home as Mhegan was yelling at her to stop. Leigh was crying and barely breathing as she slammed on the brakes. The cars behind her honked and nasty words were yelled at her. Red Roses were on the porch of her friend’s house a few blocks away.
Racing to the front door of her house, she scrambled to find her keys to unlock the door but, the scariest thing occurred, the door slowly began to open. She remembered locking it this morning. Creeping into the house scared out of her wits, she looked all around as her mind raced all over the place. Someone was in there, somewhere. The roses on the table were still there, only the note was gone. Why? Why was Matt a murderer? When Leigh was thinking about it, the front door slammed shut and she turned around. No one was there, anywhere.
Soft music began to play. A cold shiver ran down Leigh’s back as she crept around the house looking for someone to appear. As Leigh’s eyelids closed a shadow around the corner moved. She perked up and yelled, “Matthew is that you? I know you killed Diane Dolton, Casey and I’m next.” Silence. “Your caught Mathew, come out and tell me your story so I can help you.” Slowly Matthew appeared from the bathroom and tossed a note to Leigh. She read it and looked up at Matt and asked, “Why?” She was frozen in silence. It didn’t make any sense. She was terrified, her life was in terrible jeopardy. He had made a suicide note for her.
Matthew answered, “You will never understand Leigh, your time is up, and Sadie’s next after you, you know down the block. Then Mhegan and then I will kill myself.”
Dropping the gun in his hand, Leigh noticed the small mirror on the wall was a reflection of Mhegan was walking in with two police men. “Matthew kick the gun to Leigh, and take 3 steps back, kneel down and put your hands on your head,” the first cop said calmly to Matthew.
“Why?” Leigh kept on asking as her eyes were locked in his.
“I was supposed to work here as a cop, but no, I got turned down. All I ever do is deliver your mail. And you know what; I have never gotten a thank you from anyone in this office. Once I kill all the people where my job was supposed to be and Diane Dolton who I had a grudge on for firing my father, I can then apply again and get in with no questions to be answered.
Leigh remembered the day everyone laughed at him and teased him because he was the only one who made mistakes and screwed up. The second police officer tazered Matthew and cuffed him so he wouldn’t do any more harm. They all walked out except for Leigh, and her cell phone buzzed. “Hey, Leigh is everything okay?” asked Mhegan.
Leigh answered, “Yes, everything is just fine.” Everyone was glad it was all over.
Two months later as Leigh drove home from another happily finished case, she went to the phone in her house and called Mhegan to invited her over for dinner. When Mhegan arrived at around 5:30pm, the table was set and they began to eat and chat about their day at work and what they were doing this weekend. Mhegan glanced over at the dining room table and saw the blood red roses sitting on the table fully bloomed and a tag that read,
Dear Leigh.....
I know we don’t spend much time together
I would really like to get to know you better
Yours truly, Matt
